THE GIFT GUIDE
HOLIDAY MEMORIES WITH MARÍA HEREDIA
Photographer, illustrator and content creator, María Heredia shares with YOLIÉ her most special memories and gift ideas for this time of year.

What does Christmas mean to you?

For me, Christmas means coming home. It's a reunion with family and traditions. Every year I get so excited to see how my mother has decorated the house, although we used to do it together. It's an excitement that never fades. Even when we're far away, Christmas always manages to bring me back, reminding me that no matter where I am, there's always a place where I belong. It's a pause in the hustle and bustle of the year, a time to appreciate what really matters: family and being together.

Is there any memory from this time that you hold dear?

It's not so much a single memory, but a collection of little moments that have enormous meaning. The days before Christmas will always be my favorites: decorating the house with my mother, putting up the tree, me filling it with toys (and my mother putting up with my decorations when I was little, like a tree with a falcon hanging from it, imagine!). Now, fortunately, our tastes have become closer. Choosing gifts very carefully, thinking about each person, wrapping them (although I'm not so good at it). And, of course, the excitement of opening the presents the next day, which never loses its magic. Those moments are what really make Christmas special: a series of simple moments but full of love.

What would be the perfect gift to surprise someone or to be surprised?

For me, the perfect gift depends a lot on the person I'm giving it to. I always try to think about what would really make them happy, looking for something that reflects their tastes and personality. I love giving gifts with feeling, because there's nothing more satisfying than seeing someone's face when they open a gift they really liked. Whether it's a unique experience or something more material, the important thing is that it has that essence, that connection that makes the gift meaningful. Getting that expression of surprise and joy is not easy, but it's definitely worth trying.
