A CONVERSATION WITH

LAURA ÁLVAREZ

She enjoys perceiving how light impacts the small things in her everyday life. Her greatest source of inspiration is fashion, design and architecture. She is constantly creating new concepts that she embodies in powerful images.
We could poetically define Laura Álvarez as a visual storyteller, but if you're lucky enough to see her work, you'll know that's an understatement. Laura is a multifaceted creative from Madrid, Spain, currently based in the Netherlands.
Today we are fortunate to speak with her in this space, where we will learn more about her career as a Creative Director and Photographer, her sensitivity and values, and the meaning that jewelry has in her life.
When and why did you decide to dedicate yourself to the creative world?
Although I didn't consider myself particularly creative as a child, I was always drawn to digital media. By the age of 8, I was already taking photos and making videos for pure enjoyment. I never connected with traditional art, like fine arts, but I did connect with the way digital tools allowed me to express myself.
Later, platforms like Instagram and Tumblr opened my eyes to the world of fashion from a very different visual perspective than the one I'd encountered in magazines. From the age of 14, I knew I didn't want to design fashion, but rather to communicate it. I was drawn to everything behind it: the aesthetic, the atmosphere, the concept. That drive to translate ideas into images remains my greatest motivation to this day.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most about my work is the entire creative process, from the initial idea to seeing it materialize into something almost tangible. I love that initial phase of uncertainty and endless possibilities that shapes each project.

Tell us about Gerturlook2gether. What does this visual creation space mean to you?
It's a space where I can express myself visually without pressure, without worrying about engagement. Image curation is something I'm passionate about and part of how I think. It's not just a matter of aesthetics, but a way of telling stories, of building visual universes with coherence and intention.
It's also my personal archive, which I constantly return to when I need inspiration. I often use these images as reference for projects.
How would you define your lifestyle?
I'd say it's simple and conscious. I really value "slow living" and the ability to work from home, which is where I feel most connected. I'm quite a homebody, and that's why interiors are so present in my daily life and also in my content.
Lately, I've also learned to live more in the present. Noticing the small details has become part of my routine, as has exercise, which is now a part of my life like never before.
What inspires you on a daily basis?
Little things, like the light at different times of the day, music, and of course, Pinterest, which continues to be a source of inspiration for me.
What does a jewel represent to you?
For me, a piece of jewelry is a small personal treasure. I like each piece to be connected to a memory or a special person. I also believe that a piece of jewelry tends to complement any look in a simple and elegant way. I've always believed that in jewelry, as in many other things, less is more, and the more special, the better.
Do you have any that are special because of what they symbolize or remind you of?
Every piece of jewelry I own is connected to a memory or the name of a special person. That's what I value most about jewelry: its emotional meaning and the ability to carry something so meaningful with you.
